The simulation drill, which is done step by step according to procedures and plans, started in 2007 in collaboration with the National Disaster for Risk Reduction Management and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

“The drill aims at training our employees and agency personnel the proper procedures in cases of emergencies, especially fire,” said SM mall manager Clara Elizaga.

Elizaga said employees are trained to be familiar with the fire alarm and evacuation signals, their assigned duties in the event of an emergency, evacuation routes, areas of refuge, exterior assembly areas and procedures for evacuation.

SM Supermalls conduct an annual fire safety orientation and evacuation drill in all its malls nationwide as part of its continuous efforts to ensure the safety of the mall’s shoppers and employees. (PR)
