Hans Sy, President of SM Prime Holdings Inc. and Annie Garcia, president of SM Supermalls headed the Earth Hour 2010 celebration recently at the SM Mall of Asia. SM Supermalls nationwide switched their lights off simultaneously from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to show their full support for this year’s Earth Hour celebration.
Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and business establishments turned their lights off for one hour to make a stand against climate change and promote electricity conservation for lower carbon emissions. Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating.
SM Supermalls celebrated Earth Hour 2010 as part of its SM Cares Environmental Committee CSR programs and advocacy for a sustainable future. This is the third year that SM supported Earh Hour and the first to celebrate it in a nationwide scale in all of its 37 malls. SM was also the first staunch supporter of the Earth Hour advocacy and will continue to support it in the coming years.
