There’s more reason to shop at SM Megamall with the opening of the new Carpark Building C in EDSA corner Julia Vargas. The building, which opened late last year, has 735 parking slots in its seven floors and has a public transport terminal or bus bay to add convenience to both mall goers and EDSA motorists.
Designed by Arquitectonica, a leading international architecture and interior design firm, the exterior of the new building takes a cue from the barcode blocks of the existing mall.
The carpark wedge is clad in white and silver barcode stripes all running vertically, creating a new exciting presence on EDSA and giving SM Megamall a fresh iconic identity.
Parking at the carpark is easy with its new technology features. The park finder in green and red colors indicates the availability of parking slots -red means it’s occupied, while green means it’s vacant. Each of the seven floors has motorcycle parking slots.
A bridgeway connecting SM Megamall Building A and the carpark gives shoppers easy accessibility to the mall in all floors.
An enlarged bus terminal on the other hand, provides mall visitors with safe and convenient access to public transport. Created to improve the EDSA traffic flow and ease the congestion along J. Vargas Avenue, the bus bay gives commuters easy access to provincial as well as northbound buses going to Malanday, Novaliches, Fairview, S. Palay, U.E./Letre, and Bocaue Exit.
While waiting, they can enjoy snacks in food kiosks like Potato Corner, McDonalds, Siopao Sarap!, Pizza Pedricos, Buko Express, Pandesalific, and Master Siomai.
Mandaluyong Mayor Benhur Abalos said that the convenience added by the Carpark building and public transport terminal reflects the city’s progressive spirit, proactively looking after the needs of the people.
Director Celso Ylagan of Ortigas Center Administration, Inc. (OCAI) lauded the new carpark building as a clear example of good general public and customer service.
Immediate improvements are seen for the traffic flow along EDSA and nearby establishments including Saint Pedro Poveda College and Asian Development Bank.
The SM Megamall Carpark C design team includes Arquitectonica, architects; New Golden City Builders & Development, general contractor; and D.A. Abcede & Associates, project manager.
