MEMBERS of the SM City Olongapo community came together for the world’s largest volunteer effort to clean up waterways and the ocean.
SM tenants and employees participated in the International Coastal Cleanup recently at Parola, Kalaklan. Along with their group were Vice Mayor Rodel Cerezo, Councilors Ed Piano and Linus Bacay, and City Administrator Mamerto Malabute.
The undertaking was simultaneous with cleanup drives in almost 100 locations in the world, which aim to address the pollution problem in oceans as it is detrimental to the health of people, wildlife and local economies.
Volunteers cleared trash items that have been washed out to the shores and took note of these items to help propose and build solutions for cleaner and healthier seas.
This is part of the endeavor of SM City Olongapo to contribute to environmental advocacy and raise public awareness on the situation.
SM Supermalls encourage social responsibility among its tenants, patrons, employees, partners and fellow professionals.
More than participating in environmental endeavors, SM commits to sustainable development and environmental stewardship in every stage of its operations. With the increased presence of SM Supermalls all over the country, it ensures that it lessens its overall impact on the environment. Additionally, each SM mall spearheads events, activities and programs that enhance communities and the environment.
