The retail group of holding company SM Investments Corporation opened Friday its 31st Department Store and 10th Hypermarket, both in Taytay, Rizal.
The firm said these two events coincided with the inauguration of SM City Taytay, where the two SM retail outlets are the mall’s main tenants. SM City Taytay is the 29th mall of SM subsidiary SM Prime Holdings, Inc. and its first in the province of Rizal.
The SM Hypermarket in SM City Taytay occupies 8,000 square meters (sqm.) of the mall’s 91,920-sqm. gross floor area and conveniently offers a mix of food and non-food items, such as apparel and appliances, all under one roof.
In addition, it will house a modern wet market selling the freshest meat, seafood, fruits, and vegetables in a comfortable and hygienic environment. Its other offerings include a bakeshop and the highly successful chicken rotisserie.
The SM Department Store, on the other hand, is located at the ground and second floors of the mall and has a total area of 16,803 sqm, with a gross selling area of 11,197 sqm.
As with other SM Department Stores, it is a one-stop lifestyle and fashion destination, offering a very wide range of reasonably priced quality products.
SM plans to open another hypermarket in Muntinlupa before the end of this year. It will be in an SM Prime Supercenter as its main anchor.
SM Prime said the Taytay mall has a gross floor area (GFA) of 91,920 square meters (sqm) and stands on 38,525 sqm of land and has a leasable area of 42,459 sqm. It will have a food court, and three cinemas with a combined seating capacity of 1,250.
Its other mall tenants include Bench, The Face Shop, Penshoppe, Oxygen, Celine, Jollibee, McDonald’s, National Bookstore, Kevin’s Playhouse, Max’s, Floring’s Barbecue, French Baker, among others.
‘We welcome the newest member of our SM Supermalls family: SM City Taytay. Taytay is recognized as the garments capital of the Philippines,’ said SM Prime president Hans Sy.
Sy noted that Taytay has a large residential community and it houses the biggest school campus of one of the country’s leading colleges.
‘It is easily accessible from various points of Metro Manila, through major thoroughfares such as the Ortigas Avenue Extension and the Sumulong Highway, which makes it an ideal location for an SM City in the province of Rizal,’ he said.
SM City Taytay brings to 29 the total number of SM Prime malls all over the country, with a combined GFA of 3.7 million sqm.
Before the year ends, SM Prime is set to unveil SM Supercenter Muntinlupa, a community mall similar to SM Supercenter Pasig, which has SM Hypermarket at its anchor tenant.
It will also soon launch San Miguel by the Bay, a strip mall located at the Esplanade fronting the SM Mall of Asia Complex. SM Prime is also now expanding SM City Cebu.
